The first thing I thought is that we (if there was a 'we' left) would be placed somewhere in the Americas. No American should ever want to kill another American, zombie or not. It goes against human nature. So I decided to make a character that would have more ease with killing
Americans (zombies). I decided to then make my character Russian. For a long time Russia and
America have had a ‘who has the bigger stick competition’, and to add to this I made my
character a veteran of the USSR armed forces. Part of his back ground is that many of his friends
were killed by American spy/infantry units. This helps fuel his hatred for Americans.

After the USSR dispersed in the late 1900s, Vladimir Surge travels with his wife, kids
and mother to America to reunite with his father who is severely ill. Vlad is in charge of taking
care of his sick father. Once while Vladimir and his father were in the hospital he gets a call from
his wife and kids. Expecting a happy phone call, Vladimir is shocked with sounds of screaming.
The phone cuts out. He decides to go find his family and leaves his father in the care of the
hospital.
After reaching the supermarket where his family had been, he sees their vehicle, covered
in blood. There’s broken glass everywhere, as he looks in on his dead wife and daughter. He
realizes that his son is missing. He runs into the store in search for him. Vladimir finds him
covered in blood laying face down in the fountain. He pulls him out, onto the ground and closes
his son’s eyes.
This is part of a story I’ve previously created and never had the time to finish.
I wanted the main character to be able to survive the complete zombie apocalypse, so I
tried to give him the best attributes possible. I was going to add that after he moved to America,
he became a zoologist. I figured that if zombies are animalistic in nature, then someone who
works with animals should be able to understand them better, possibly learning their social
patterns allowing the tracking or hunting of them. I also wanted to make Vlad a part of a national
hunting league. He gets medical supplies from his father, however later in the story his father
dies. This gives all the meds to the main character. One of his hobbies is that he works on old
style radios. These are just the basics, and I intend to add more onto my character throughout this
project.
